Bo Nickal has big plans for when he fights Khamzat Chimaev in the future.
Bo Nickal is one of the most talked-about fighters in the UFC, so he will definitely have a lot of choices. But a fight with Khamzat Chimaev in the future might be at the top of the list.
Even though he has only had five professional fights, and only two in the UFC, including his amazing 38-second knockout this past weekend at UFC 290, the three-time NCAA wrestling champion has already heard all sorts of matchmaking ideas.
Nickal says that even though Israel Adesanya is the current champion at 185 pounds, he is constantly asked about facing Chimaev.
Nickal said on The MMA Hour, "I think everyone wants to see me fight Khamzat." "I want to fight Khamzat, but I think we need to make more.
"It's been a long time since he fought. I think [Kevin] Holland was his last opponent. He beat Kevin Holland up almost a year ago, and I'd like to see him maybe fight at [middleweight]. I'll get a couple more fights in."
Chimaev has been away for a long time. In September, he beat Holland in an amazing way. But that fight only happened because the unbeaten Chechen couldn't make weight and had to switch opponents at the last minute. He was supposed to fight Nate Diaz, but he couldn't make it, so he had to fight someone else.
Since then, Chimaev has talked about fighting former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, hinting that he might move up to middleweight. All signs point to Chimaev coming back at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi in October, even though he hasn't booked a fight yet.
Nickal is looking forward to a fight with Chimaev, but he thinks it's the kind of fight that needs special attention, which takes time and patience.
Nickal said, "My goal with Khamzat has been to sell out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the belt and blow the roof off that place when I beat him."
