We are living in the 21st century yet there are still biases present in our societies. Criticising someone, passing a snide remark or subtly taunting are easy for humans. There are bullies, body shamers, racist, homophobes, misogynist and orthodox coexisting and we cannot for a minute swear on our lives and say we haven’t been one of these at some point in our lives or haven’t gone through it at some point. I was bullied for wearing glasses that are a necessity for me. People had been so brutal while calling me names like, ‘headlight’, ‘double battery single power’ and had used more worse derogatory terms. My sister had been body shamed by her peers/classmates for being thin. It is not my sister’s fault if she is not gaining more fat on her body even after eating, it’s just her body type so why was she asked to put on some weight or she’d fly away in the wind.
In our societies we judge beauty based on certain beauty standards; you should have almonds-shaped eyes, you should have a certain body type, your face shape should be heart or oval, etc. In this aspect I think Beauty Pageants are like a stigma for people with heavy body shapes or with shorter frame because the motto of these so called beauty pageants is to help underprivileged people in underdeveloped countries or to make a change in this world, so why are they not considering people with more weight and shorter frames because beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and colour and honestly, beauty pageants are nothing but hypocrites.
It is about time we STOP being JUDGEMENTAL and Start ACCEPTING people as they are, their original true self because you don’t know how your negative comments are going to impact their lives. BREAK THE BULLYING CHAINS NOW!
