Calling Wildlife NGOs to Manage Transit Treatment Centre for Wild Animals
The Pune forest division plans to invite applications from wildlife non-governmental organizations (NGOs) interested in managing the recently inaugurated Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) for wild animals. The selection of the NGO will be made after a thorough review of the applications, which is expected to take about 10 to 15 days, according to a forest official.
The TTC, established as a large-scale facility, aims to provide treatment and rehabilitation for injured wild animals affected by accidents, poaching, trafficking, and human-animal conflicts. Spanning 22 acres of land in Bavdhan, the facility's first phase, which includes an administrative building, veterinary hospital, segregated sections for different animal species, a post-mortem room, and a crematorium, was recently inaugurated by the state forests minister.
Pradeep Sankpal, the range forest officer for the Bhamburda forest range, explained, "To operate this facility, the department requires the support of an NGO. Therefore, we will involve an NGO as a managing partner. Interested NGOs will be invited to submit applications, and a public advertisement and online notice will be issued for this purpose."
Sankpal further stated, "The applications will be carefully reviewed based on the forest department's criteria, and the final decision will be made following the scrutiny process." Once the selection process is completed, which is estimated to take around 10 to 15 days, the animals will be admitted to the facility.
