One of Wales's go-to stars in the 2022 World Cup will be midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
The 31-year-old has had an up-and-down career that has led to inconsistent form in recent years. Injuries have also played a part in Ramsey’s rollercoaster journey in football.
However, for Wales, the Nice midfielder has been an important squad member. Over the last 14 years, Ramsey has earned 75 caps and is set to feature heavily in Rob Page’s team in Qatar.
How Well Can Ramsey Perform?
With experience playing at the highest level for Arsenal, Juventus and Rangers, Ramsey has clear quality.
However, his recent form in Ligue 1 with Nice has been patchy following his move here from Juventus in the summer of 2022. Ramsey has made just five Ligue 1 starts this season and, despite scoring on his debut, the Welshman has failed to add to his goalscoring tally.
In addition, Ramsey had a tough loan spell at Rangers during the second half of the 2021/22 season. The midfielder never gained momentum at Rangers, featured in 13 games and eventually missed a vital penalty in the Europa League final loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.
After a tough recent spell, Ramsey will surely be motivated to shine on the world stage with Wales.
At the international level, Ramsey has been a consistent performer, scoring 20 goals and making nine assists for Wales.
But he is also a vital player that Page will learn on during the World Cup. Page called upon Ramsey, despite his poor form, for the crucial World Cup playoffs against Austria and Ukraine in March and May and the midfielder played every minute of both matches.
The World Cup will be Ramsey’s chance to show he still has the quality to make a difference on the biggest stage in world football. He has the attributes and Page is certainly a manager and motivator that can get the best from his talented players.
