Cast of “A Virtuous Business” Impresses at Script Reading: A Captivating Tale of Friendship, Independence, and Taboo
The upcoming drama A Virtuous Business has generated excitement by releasing photos from its script reading session. The series is a remake of the British television show Brief Encounters and will explore themes of independence, growth, and friendship among four women. Set in 1992, the show takes place in a rural village where these women venture into the door-to-door sales of adult products, a topic that was still considered taboo at the time.
Director Jo Woong and writer Choi Bo Rim were present at the script reading, along with a star-studded cast including Kim So Yeon, Yeon Woo Jin, Kim Sung Ryung, Kim Sun Young, Lee Se Hee, Kim Won Hae, Choi Jae Rim, Im Chul Soo, and many others. The cast's dynamic performances left a lasting impression.
Kim So Yeon stars as Han Jung Sook, a virtuous housewife. Departing from her usual strong roles, Kim skillfully embodies Jung Sook's reserved nature as she struggles to cover her rent and her son's education costs. Her journey into selling adult products marks a significant transformation in her life.
Yeon Woo Jin portrays Kim Do Hyun, a detective with a laid-back, 90s American-style charisma. His mysterious reassignment from the Gangnam Police Station to the rural Geumje precinct unfolds with intriguing hints throughout the story.
Kim Sung Ryung plays Oh Geum Hee, an elegant and intelligent woman who embarks on a new phase in life with her husband after joining the sales team. Kim Sun Young takes on the role of Seo Young Bok, a mother of many children, whose humorous take on her family's cramped living conditions brings warmth and laughter.
Lee Se Hee shines as Lee Joo Ri, a single mother and the show’s “it girl,” standing out for her vibrant performance among the veteran cast.
The production team remarked, "A Virtuous Business boasts an incredible lineup of talented actors. Their performances at the script reading were so stellar that it felt like we were already in full-scale filming."
