Many parents believe that giving their kids cell phones makes them much safer. The children can contact the parents when necessary, and the parents can call to check on the children. If something horrible occurs while the kids are travelling to or from school, or while they are at school, they can also call the police. Cell phones are useful for scheduling activities and school pick-ups and drops-offs. In a crowd, cell phones are excellent for locating one another.

In this new age, I think phones are just extremely important for kids to have. If technology is being used to cause trouble, technology is also being used to get out of trouble.

And while, of course, kids will be distracted by cell phones, I do think it can be something that we can work around. Phones aren't the only things kids use for distractions. We work around other stuff, we can definitely do with this too.
