Chandigarh Press Club Goes Green with 95kW Solar Power Installation
In a significant stride towards environmental sustainability, the Chandigarh Press Club has installed a 95kW solar power plant on its premises. This initiative marks a remarkable commitment to reducing carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy sources.
The installation of the solar plant underscores the Chandigarh Press Club's dedication to environmental stewardship. With the capacity to match 90 percent of the club's electricity consumption, this green energy solution will play a pivotal role in fostering a sustainable future.
Umesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Chandigarh Press Club, highlighted the significance of this endeavor, emphasising that it not only contributes to a greener environment but also translates into substantial cost savings for the club, estimated at around Rs 8-9 lakh per year.
The solar power plant has been installed through the grant provided by the Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit from his discretionary funds.
The installation was inaugurated by the senior members, who were honored during the inauguration ceremony for their invaluable contributions to making the Chandigarh Press Club one of the premier institutions in the country.
The solar power plant installation was executed in three phases, demonstrating a systematic approach towards harnessing renewable energy. The first phase saw the installation of a 45kW plant on the roof of the first-floor hall, followed by a 25kW solar plant on the first-floor terrace. Notably, these installations serve a dual purpose, providing shade for outdoor seating areas, enhancing the club's amenities for its members. The third phase involved the installation of a 25kW solar plant in the swimming pool area, further expanding the club's renewable energy infrastructure.
Beyond the immediate benefits of cost savings and energy independence, the Chandigarh Press Club's adoption of solar power sets a positive example for other institutions and communities. By embracing clean energy solutions, the club not only reduces its environmental impact but also contributes to mitigating climate change on a broader scale.
