Chandigarh's Sports Department is not working for sports and players
Chandigarh. July 13, 2024
Chandigarh's Sports Department is once again under the scanner. Sports Players Parents Federation of India President RD Atri along with other parents have alleged that neither the Sports Department is working for sports nor for the players. Chandigarh Sports Advisory Committee member SK Gupta and many parents were present on this occasion.
RD Atri said that we have collected a lot of information through RTI. Earlier there was a football ground in Sector-17, which has now been converted into Tricolor Park. It was built at a cost of about 11 crores and the football ground was reduced. Earlier, national level matches were held here, but now even practice matches are not being held. The ground is not as per the rules and there is a danger of injury here. No one had the power to change this ground, but despite this its map was changed.
The second allegation is that the department has stopped giving all kinds of facilities to the players. Earlier exposure tours were given and children were also sent to high-altitude camps in Shilaru. This has been completely stopped for two years and children are not being given any kind of opportunity. Neither do they get many competitions nor such tours. The Chandigarh academy has given many Olympians in hockey and more than 50 international players in football.
Hockey Chandigarh Secretary Anil Vohra was also present on this occasion. He said that Hockey India has given Chandigarh the hosting rights of the Nationals, the matches of which are to be held in September. The department has been asked several times to get the necessary work done, but no work has been done in this direction till now. No one has even discussed when and how this work is to be done. If the players here do well.
