Chandigarh's Sukhna Lake Set to host India's top triathlon enthusiasts for Tuffman 113km Triathlon
Chandigarh's picturesque Sukhna Lake is gearing up to host India's top triathlon enthusiasts on August 27 for the highly anticipated second edition of the Tuffman 113km triathlon event. Nestled at the base of the Shivalik Range of the Himalayas, this iconic rainfed lake is once again the focal point of the swimming leg of the event, making it a spectacle that's as challenging as it is scenic.
Organized by Tuffman, an endurance sports platform, the event has attracted over 100 participants from different corners of the country, as well as some foreign nationals. The athletes will be vying for glory in both triathlon and duathlon categories.
The highlight of the event is the 1.9km swimming leg, where triathletes will traverse the waters of Sukhna Lake. The serene yet demanding environment of the lake provides a unique backdrop for this segment of the competition. Following the swim, participants will tackle a demanding 90km cycling route along the Kurali-Chandigarh road, followed by a grueling 21.1km run through the DLF Hyde Park Estate. The ultimate finish line of this rigorous 113km event awaits at the DLF The City Club in New Chandigarh.
In addition to the flagship 113km triathlon, the event will also feature an Olympic distance triathlon, sprint triathlon, and a duathlon which combines cycling and running.
The Olympic triathlon entails a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike ride, and a 10km run, while the sprint triathlon consists of a 0.75km swim, a 20km bike ride, and a 5km run.
Sanjay Mangla, a founder of Tuffman and an ultra runner himself, expressed his enthusiasm about the event, stating, "Sukhna Lake is the heart and soul of Chandigarh, and conducting the swimming leg of the race here adds a unique beauty to the triathlon event. With only a handful of triathlon events in the country offering the experience of open water swimming, Chandigarh stands out as a privileged city to host such an event."
The picturesque setting, combined with the challenges posed by the lake's open waters, makes this event a standout in the Indian triathlon calendar.
