Chandrayaan-3's Pragyan rover has successfully emerged from the Vikram lander, its release occurring once the lunar dust had fully settled. Chandrayaan-3 achieved a soft landing on the lunar south pole at 6:04 pm IST on August 23, 2023, establishing India's unique distinction as the first nation to accomplish this feat.
Subsequent to the complete powering of the Vikram lander, the Pragyan rover commenced its deployment, a process that took over four hours to complete. The tandem of the Pragyan rover and the Vikram lander comprised the lander module. Transporting the lander module to a 100-kilometer circular lunar orbit was the propulsion module's task. Following this, the propulsion module disengaged from the lander module, marking another step in the mission's progress.
