Chief Selector Maintains Confidence in Bangladesh World Cup Squad Despite Loss to USA
Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the chief selector of Bangladesh, has opted to retain faith in the 15-member squad chosen for the upcoming T20 World Cup despite the team's recent series loss to USA. Bangladesh had the opportunity to make changes after losing the first two T20Is against USA but decided to stick with the current squad. Ashraf explained that the decision was made after consulting with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe. The chief selector expressed hope that the team would perform well in the World Cup and emphasized the importance of quickly moving past the disappointment of the series loss.
The Bangladesh Tigers have called up 21 players for a training camp, including six designated as T20 World Cup reserves. Mohammad Saifuddin, however, will be absent for the first two weeks due to a family emergency. Despite concerns about the opening batting combination, Ashraf indicated that the team is not considering makeshift options and believes that openers from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) can fill the role effectively. He also provided updates on Taskin Ahmed's recovery from injury, stating that the fast bowler could resume training soon. Bangladesh is set to commence their T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas.
