China said on December 22 that it is arranging for German expats to obtain the COVID-19 vaccination from BioNTech.

Germany previously reported sending a batch of mRNA vaccinations to China. A deal was negotiated between the two countries during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Beijing, when China agreed to permit German citizens living in China to receive the mRNA vaccination.

According to Reuters, Scholz also requested Beijing to grant access to the shot to Chinese and other international nationals. The vaccinations will initially only be given to German expatriates.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that it is "assisting China to concentrate its efforts on immunising those who are most at risk throughout the nation, and we continue to offer our support for clinical treatment and safeguarding its health system."
