China achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway, connecting the Tibetan region of Ngaba in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. Commencing operations on November 28, the railway marks the end of a historical lack of railway access in Aba Prefecture. The first train, departing from Maoxian Station, officially opened the railway from Chengdu in Sichuan to Qinghai's Xining, covering approximately 836 kilometers with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
This groundbreaking project is part of China's broader infrastructure development, providing crucial connectivity to the northwestern Sichuan Plateau. The Sichuan-Qinghai Railway traverses challenging terrain, climbing nearly 2,000 meters and navigating complex geological conditions, earning it the moniker of the "super difficult railway under construction." The route passes through picturesque landscapes, including the world-famous Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area.
Notably, the railway's opening is expected to enhance tourism accessibility, with the Huanglong Jiuzhai Station set to open next year. Chen Shunqing, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of Aba Prefecture Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, anticipates a record high in tourism reception, exceeding 50 million visitors annually. The inclusion of Tibetan train staff in the inaugural crew team reflects the local significance of this transformative railway project.
