China has been witnessing massive protests against the country's tough zero-covid policy in recent weeks.
Last month at least 10 people were killed in a building fire in Urumqi, Xinjiang, people blamed China's brutal lockdown for the deaths.
When a Chinese official appeared to blame the residents for the incident, protests first broke out in Xinjiang and then eventually spread to Beginning, Shanghai, Chengdu, Wuhan, Lanzhou, and Nanjing.
These protests have taken the form of "White paper revolution" where demonstrators have been seen holding blank sheets of A4 sized white paper during the protests. This symbolizes the lack of free speech in the country.
White is also a common funeral colour in china and is being used to mourn those lost in the protests.
This way of protesting makes Chinese Government difficult to detain demonstrators for any offence since, the protests are silent, non violent and are evading censorship.
Moreover, the hashtag "A4Revolution" has been trending on Twitter after the protests started, and soon people around the world started changing their profile photos to blank sheets of papers in support of the protests on social media platforms.
But contrary to this, some students of Beijing's Tsinghua University were seen holding sheets on which Friedman's equation was written. This equation describes the rate at which the universe expands. And it might symbolises a "free and open China" in the protests.
