Imagine how cool it would be to go to your school wearing a medieval uniform, in a medieval building. Students of Christ's Hospital Boarding School in England have been wearing the same uniform since
1556 for the last 460 years.
Inspired by a sermon of Ridley, Henry VII decided to help the poor and destitute. This led to the establishment of three institutions, the Bridewell Hospital, the St. Thomas Hospital and Christ Hospital
which was for the education of poor children.
About ten years ago, there was a vote amongst the pupils on keeping the uniform to getting a modern version. The student body overwhelmingly voted on keeping the uniform as it is. They are very proud of
their uniform. The school has a rule that every student has to return home in their uniform at the end of term.
While other English schools like Eton and Harrow, that started as schools for poor but are solely for elites now, Christ's Hospital has stuck to it’s principles admitting students only on basis of merit, regardless of background. Most of the students receive some sort of financial help and study on scholarship.
