This is where we come to the next golden rule of Sikhism, sharing with others (Vand Chakna).
Micheal Chopra, from time to time, heads back to the place where people share half his
ethnicity, and gives them all the knowledge he gained during his time as a professional
footballer. Bhupinder Singh has just started out in his Premier League refereeing career, and
his dream already is to be a role model for future officials and encourage people from different
backgrounds to get into officiating. His father, Jarnail spoke about his pride that he has for his
sons, as they bring about a sense of hope and credence to their community, that they too can
make it in the game.
Bhupinder Singh Gill, Sunny Singh and Jarnail Singh all stayed humble even during all the
media attention. The third, and final golden rule is, honest living (Kirat Karni). They didn’t
dream too big, nor too far. Sunny Singh accepted that in spite of his hardest work, the best he
could do would be the Championship. The premier league would just be a “bonus”. The most
important lesson Jarnail taught his two sons was only to be diligent, and remain humble.
From watching his father run the show in football games with his turban on his head, to
kneeling down in the Gurudwara, Bhups established his name into the history books. He
walked through the Doors of Peace, Livelihood, Learning, and Grace, before he finally walked
out the door he most sought after, the door to a Premier League football match. On that day he
placed himself on a takhat (an elevated throne in the Gurudwara), bearing the Nishan Sahib
(Sikh Flag) on his back, hearing everybody that loves and cares for him chant in his head, Bole
So Nihal Sat Sri Akal.
