Three teenagers in Washington state are now facing up to 10 years in prison each for violating a new draconian hate crime law that punishes anyone who vandalizes property with hateful intent with up to five years in prison per offense and a $10,000 fine. The teens were seen by passersby riding motorized scooters over an LGBTQ mural painted on the streets of the city, causing it to be destroyed by skid marks.
Now, look, I don’t necessarily disagree with the intent of the law. Imagine if somebody defaced property by drawing swastikas on them or did something similar. I get it. But the question that needs to be asked is why this doesn’t happen to people who burn the Israeli or American flag, or who draw swastikas on monuments, or call for the deaths of Jews on monuments? I say, equal punishment for the same crimes. It’s that simple. This law was obviously made with the intent to only protect left-wing groups in mind. Otherwise, hundreds of anti-Christian protests would be similarly punished.
