Current Pandemic in India is driven by Omicron and Omicron is not common cold.
In a press conference government said most of the cases in India are omicron and the variant is highly virulent and spreading at a very fast rate.
Omicron is replacing Delta variant and less has reduced risk of hospitalisation.
“Omicron is not common cold, it's our responsibility to slow it down. Let's mask up and get vaccinated, whoever is due. It's fact they (vaccines) are helpful to an extent. Vaccination critical pillar of our Covid response”, -Niti Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Paul.

While almost 2 lakh new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, government officials said daily positivity rate went from 1 percent a few days ago to 11 percent .
Currently, 300 districts in India are reporting weekly case positivity of more than 5 per cent
Some cities are reporting even higher percentages like 25, 30 percent and even 60 percent in some places,” the official said.
