In Jammu and Kashmir, Dachigam National Park is located 22 kilometres (kilometres) from Srinagar. It encompasses a space of 141 sq km (square kilometer). The name, which is a direct translation of "10 villages," may refer to the ten villages that were moved to make the park.
Dachigam was primarily founded to guarantee the city of Srinagar had access to safe drinking water. Since 1910, it has been a protected area; it became a national park in 1981.
