Dante Alighieri is regarded as one of the greatest poets in the Western literary tradition and he is still viewed as the national poet of Italy. He was a literary giant that had a decisive impact on the development not only of Italian literature but on many other aspects of the Renaissance.
Dante made great contributions to the early Renaissance and many of his ideas and notions were later developed by the writers, artists and thinkers that came after him. He mainly contributed to the progress of humsnidm
He used vernacular language in literature which challenged the ways of the Chruch those days, ghis helped in making cultural and intellectual changes which made the Renaissance come alive.
The Divine Comedy, an epic poem which is dividend into 3 parts and has 100 cantos, is the most important work of Dante. It is considered to be one of the greatest works in Western Literature. The Divine Comedy is an imagined account of Dante’s journey in the Christian afterlife. The poem is divided into the Inferno which depicts hell, then Purgatorio which details Purgatory and the final section is concerned with Heaven (Paradiso). The epic made Dante immediately a famous and revered figure even before his death in 1321.
