Audience – let’s be honest, most of the folks watching the debate have already made up their mind in this election.  Very few viewers will not have some pre-determined opinion about both of these candidates.  Maybe a few have little idea of what Harris stands for.  But if they’re tuning into the debate to learn her philosophical views on major policy initiatives, this is not the place.  Debates are all about one thing – theater.  Who can land a knockout blow on the other.  For that reason, the debates matter little.  History has proven that.  Well, for many except the most recent one featuring Joe Biden.  Ahem…
Either way, those tuning in tonight will be watching so they can try and leverage what is said for future political gain in the campaign.  Sure, Trump will try and pin Harris down on immigration, fracking, and a host of other public flip-flops.  And he should try.  And sure, Harris will try and make Trump out as a misogynistic, egomaniac who is dangerous and unfit to serve.  And she should try.  But at the end of the day, let’s all acknowledge that the audience is mostly political insiders.
