It is an irony. More people get educated, the more they get “radicalised” about their respective identities. In the process truth becomes the eventual casualty. Unfortunately there is a growing tendency among people to believe only what they want to believe irrespective of the truth and the reality. Truth has become so subjective that its acceptance has become a matter of personal choice and belief. This is an ominous sign and signal for a place like Punjab, where there is a lot of diversity and people subscribe to diverse identities.
Recent incident in Golden Temple is a testimony to the deepening fault lines between two sets of people, who otherwise have so much in common, including history and culture, and even beliefs. But the vested interests across the spectrum ever active on social media did not let the issue die down. Rather they hijacked it.
