The extreme heatwave in Delhi has disrupted daily routines, leading to a sharp increase in the need for water due to the exceptionally high temperatures.
Residents of Delhi are grappling with a severe shortage of water, resorting to lining up for tanker deliveries. In the midst of this, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday slammed the BJP government in Haryana for doing negative politics and blocking water supply in Yamuna, leading to water scarcity in the national capital.
AAP's chief national spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, alleged that 137 cusecs of water released by Himachal Pradesh on the directions of the Supreme Court were stopped by the Haryana government.
Apart from blocking Himachal's water supply, the Haryana government has also reduced the national capital's share of 1,050 cusecs, as per the pact between the two states, by 200 cusecs, she alleged.
She said that the AAP government will apprise the Supreme Court about the situation, which will hear the matter on Monday.
Kakkar also slammed Delhi's Lt Governor VK Saxena, suggesting that he could have engaged in negotiations and asked Haryana to release the water, yet he chose not to do so.
Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena will meet Delhi Water Minister Atishi at 11 am today.
He also asked them about the measures taken "to check wastage and leakage of water in Delhi and the status of disilting Wazirabad reservoir, as directed by the Supreme Court."
