Amid a sweltering heatwave, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi has petitioned the Supreme Court, seeking additional water supplies from neighboring states to mitigate the acute water shortage.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is also seeking BJP's persuasion to get a nod for additional water supply from neighboring states including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The plea filed by the Delhi government requests an urgent release of more water from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh for a month. This measure is aimed at alleviating the severe water crisis affecting the national capital.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called on BJP leaders to set aside political differences and collaborate in addressing the water shortage. He emphasized the increased demand for water due to the extreme heat, coupled with a reduction in the supply from neighboring states.
Kejriwal urged for bipartisan efforts, asking BJP leaders to engage with their counterparts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to secure additional water for Delhi. "If BJP persuades its governments in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to provide some water to Delhi for a month, the people of Delhi will greatly appreciate this step," he added.
