As there was light rain in Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted relief from the searing heatwave over the weekend. The sky is likely to remain partly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday.
In the national capital, the soaring temperatures dipped on Friday. The Met Office said that Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season.
Karnataka
Meanwhile, for coastal Karnataka, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has issued a red alert. The area is likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall on June 22 (Saturday). At isolated places across the state, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) are likely, said the monitoring centre.
According to a KSNDMC advisory, between June 23 and June 26, in certain areas of the Krishna basin, isolated heavy rains are also expected.
On Friday, the southwest monsoon advanced into Jharkhand and covered two districts out of 24 in the state, a weather official said.
From the northeast part of the state, the southwest monsoon made an entry and covered the Sahebganj and Pakur districts.
In Rajasthan, on Saturday and Sunday, rain with thunderstorms is likely to continue in Kota, Udaipur division, and surrounding areas. From Monday onwards, rain is predicted to increase in some parts of southeastern Rajasthan, said the weather department.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the MeT department also predicted heavy rain at some places in Kota and Udaipur divisions.
In the last 48 hours, some parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions recorded light to moderate rain.
