Kasper Hjulmand named his final Denmark World Cup squad on November 7.
The Denmark national side will be looking to match their European Championship semi-final run in 2021. Denmark also won the 1992 Euros - their last and only major championship honour.
Hjulmand’s side has shown they are a serious international force in recent competitions. With these Premier League stars in their ranks, Denmark will be looking to stun Group D opponents France, Finland and Australia in Qatar.
Christian Eriksen (Manchester United)
After suffering cardiac arrest in a match against Finland in Euro 2020, Christian Eriksen has made an exceptional recovery.
The Danish playmaker returned to the Premier League with Brentford in January last season. Then, Eriksen moved to Man United in the summer and has become a key player for the Red Devils. The midfielder has provided four assists in 13 appearances this season.
But Eriksen has also made his remarkable comeback to the Danish national team in recent months. In March 2022, Eriksen returned for international duty in a friendly against the Netherlands. Since then, the midfielder has featured in all of Denmark’s seven fixtures and captained the side twice.
Fully-recovered and back performing at the top level, Eriksen will be central to Hjulmand’s plans in the central midfield position.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham)
A midfield partner to Eriksen in the Denmark national team will be Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The 27-year-old is enjoying a fine season with Spurs, scoring three and assisting twice in 14 appearances.
In addition, Hojbjerg Is the go-to defensive midfielder in Denmark’s flexible 4-3-3 formation. The midfielder played every minute of the Danes’ Nations League campaign and the nation’s Euro 2020 semi-final run.
With three goals at Euro 2020, Hjulmand is likely to call on the experienced Hojbjerg to contribute at both ends of the pitch in Qatar.
