As Delhi grapples with bone-chilling cold and dense fog, flight and rail operations have been severely impacted, causing distress for thousands of passengers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported visibility within 500 meters at Palam and Safdarjung Airports in the morning, leading to the delay of around 30 flights departing from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Additionally, 17 flights were canceled due to low visibility amid the thick fog.
Fog patches extend over northern and north-eastern states, affecting airports in these regions. The IMD highlighted visibility challenges, citing Varanasi, Agra, Gwalior, Jammu, and others experiencing extremely low visibility. Passengers faced frustration at the airport, with significant delays and cancellations attributed to adverse weather conditions.
Rail travel was equally disrupted, with around 30 trains, including prominent services like Rani Kamalapati-Hazrat Nizamuddin Vande Bharat and Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Express, running behind schedule due to the dense fog enveloping the national capital and prevailing coldwave conditions.
With a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, an orange alert has been issued for cold wave conditions persisting in Delhi. The IMD forecasts continued dense to very dense fog, impacting flights, trains, and road travel. Air quality in the capital remains in the "severe" category, compounding challenges for residents. As the cold wave persists, commuters are advised to brace for ongoing disruptions in the transportation sector.
