Nice post
In Chadoora town of Budgam and nearby villages solid and liquid waste is dumped in it along with pesticides getting washed away during rains from nearby apple farms. Illegal Riverbed Mining near Chadoora town is also destroying Doodh Ganga. All these illegal activities openly violate Environmental Protection Act 1986 and Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, Minor Mineral Concession Rules 2016 and Standard / Specific guidelines of State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority-SEIAA.
When my petition was examined by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) judges , they penalized SMC & other Govt institutions with Rs 3 crores in March this year. In October a whooping penalty of Rs 35 crores was again slashed on J&K Govt by NGT for not taking any remedial action on stopping pollution in Doodh Ganga.
The pollution in Doodh Ganga is affecting the lives of human beings as there can be no dignity, freedom and justice without health for all. The right to health is our basic human right and this is also about ensuring better access to affordable, quality healthcare. In our case this is openly violated as the Govt is not taking pollution in Doodh Ganga seriously.
