Breast cancer occurs mainly in women, but men can get it, too.
Many people don't realise that men have breast tissue and that they can develop breast cancer. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer and can spread to other areas.
Signs and symptoms of breast cancer in MEN
Possible symptoms of breast cancer to watch for include:
• A lump pr swelling, which is often (but not always) painless.
• skin dumpling or Pickering
• nipple retraction (turning inward)
• redness or scaling of the nipple or breast skin
• discharge from the nipple
Sometimes of just cancer can spread to link notes under the arm or around the collarbone and for the lump or swelling there, even before the original tumor in the breast is large enough to be felt.
These changes aren't always caused by cancer but if you notice any breast care changes your health care professional as soon as possible.
Types of breast cancer in Men
The most common types of breast cancer in men are:
>Ductal carcinoma in situ - The cancer cells are only in the lining of the ducts, and have not spread to other tissues in the breast.
>Invasive ductal carcinoma - The cancer cells begin in the ducts and then grow outside the ducts into other parts of the breast tissue.
>Invasive lobular carcinoma - Cancer cells begin in the lobules and then spread from the lobules to the breast tissues that are close by.
Men breast cancer presents a similar pathology to female breast cancer, so the assessment and treatment reply heavily on experiences and guidelines developed in female patients.
