Just after Halloween, All Saints Day is celebrated on November 1. The festival is also referred to as 'Hallowmas' 'Feast of All Saints,’ and 'All Hallows Day.’
This day is celebrated to honour all those people who are considered to be saints by the church, people who are dead and who have been beatified and are now in heaven.
Several countries around the world like Spain, Portugal, and Mexico celebrate All Saints Day by doing various offerings in many Roman Catholic, Anglican as well as Protestant churches.
There are many theories and stories behind the celebration of the festival, however, the exact history behind the celebration of the festival is still unclear.
One of the stories says that the festival earlier used to be celebrated on May 13, Pope Boniface IV on May 13 609 AD, dedicated a temple in Pantheon as a church to honour Virgin Mary and all the saints. This gave rise to All Saints Day.
On this day, Catholics are expected to attend Mass. But Pope Gregory III changed the date of the festival to November, now every year on the first Sunday after Pentecost, All Saints Day is celebrated and dead people are honoured and remembered on this day.
