Living Proof: A Climate Story takes advantage of this year's Climate Conference being hosted in Glasgow to examine Scotland's history of the climate crisis. Using footage from the 1940s to the '80s, filmmaker Dr. Emily Munro researched using the National Library of Scotland's archives.
She used footage from over 80 films, showing the way these archival films parallel our environmental concerns today. One example, a TV documentary from 1977, asks 'whether we have reached our limit and whether the human species can really comprehend where we are in time', says Munro. Munro also uses the documentary to examine how the cinema and the environment have a surprising relationship, with oil companies releasing so-called 'environmental films' that we now term 'green-washing', and how the film industry is reluctant to stop taking funding from these companies that are causing the most damage.
Living Proof: A Climate story will premiere at Take One Action.
