Happy Women's Day and Happy Holi 🌼✳️
Women’s Day.
A day to commemorate women. Some agree others want womenhood to be celebrated everyday.
I believe Women’s day is a reminder/reiteration that women are special-different but not weak.
There is no competition among genders-both are important for the world to exist.
However in 2023 we still have places, people and societies where women don’t get their due. Afghan women are waiting outside colleges to be let in, go out to work, in the West fighting for equal wages, right to abortion, in India right to love.
Women’s Rights is not a feminist term. Women’s rights are simply human rights .
First the right to exist, “right to live free from violence and discrimination; enjoy highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; be educated; own property; vote; and to earn an equal wage”. Equal opportunities without bias.
Women have broken barriers but discrimination is far from over.
In homes and outside, women are still fighting perceptions. Myths/misconceptions are prevalent and they are thrown at you everyday. Let’s dissect some.
NO, a women laughing at your joke doesn’t mean she is ready to sleep with you. “Hassi is not equal to phassi”.
Women are as efficient in money matters-sales at stores might drive them crazy but they can handle sales departments with excellence. Not every women is bad at maths similarly men are not mathematicians.
Women don’t crumble under pressure, they perform better. Remember how they multitask.
Marriage/motherhood doesn’t make a women less efficient at work. Don’t ask her questions like how will you manage work with a child. You don’t ask them same to a man.
Women are not “too emotional, they are just more sensitive”. They are great team leaders, just a little more sensitive.
When two women sit together, they don’t just gossiping, they can be discussing important work.
I feel the mother of all myths is how women/mothers are perfect, can manage everything work/home perfectly, can sacrifice their lives for families. No my darlings they are born with only two arms. They need help so better chip in.
