Often she cries, sitting at the corner
Brutally beaten, her eyes swollen
She wonders why she chose it
Or even if she ever had a choice.
Wipes her tear, she rose again
Every part of her can feel the pain
She covers all up and then she smiles
And walked again to cover that extra mile
Collected the water and there she came.
Wife, this is her only identity and her name.
Violence against women – particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence – is a major public health problem and a violation of women's human rights.
Estimates published by WHO indicate that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.
Most of this violence is intimate partner violence. Worldwide, almost one-third (27%) of women aged 15-49 years who have been in a relationship report that they have been subjected to some form of physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner.
Domestic violence is a serious issue all over the country. The outcomes of this violence can be unwanted pregnancies, health hazards, depression, anxiety, miscarriages, and suicides.
Now if we strike on roots, we’ll realize it is a matter of patriarchal mentality, which imbibes in the perpetrator's mind that women are weak. A person will never raise his hand on his superior or on a person whom he considers equal. Violence can never be justified with the tag love.
Solution? Learn to fight and raise your voice, parents need to be a real support. There should be the availability of 24*7 helplines for the victims. Spreading awareness and teaching girls to be independent can go a long way to ensure equity and a peaceful household.
