Donald Trump said that the purpose of the criminal investigation is related to the January 6 riots in the United States.

Former US President Donald Trump said he received a "targeted letter" that may expose him to a criminal investigation regarding the January 6, 2020 riot.

According to American media,  Trump has been talking with his advisors since Tuesday morning.

It is not yet clear which authority issued this letter and what aspects of the criminal investigation about the January 6 riots it contains.

However, as the media reported, the former US president said that he had received indications that he would probably be charged in court.

Following Trump's defeat in the 2019 US presidential election, a number of his supporters stormed the US Congress building on January 6, 2020, which is known as the January 6 riot.

Following the riot, many accused him of being behind these supporters or inciting them to riot. The US House of Representatives approved his impeachment motion in January 2021, but the Senate did not vote on this motion.

The former president of the United States did not accept his defeat in the 2019 election and claimed that the election was rigged in favor of the current president of the United States, Joe Biden - a claim that has not been presented and proven.

Trump's team is trying to find out what potential case may be pending against the former US president regarding the January riot.

Still, he was at his golf course in Bedminster on Monday and plans to travel to Iowa with a small campaign team later Tuesday.
