Beauty Gaint Dove has partnered with controversial Black Lives Matter activist Zyanha Bryant for a "body positivity" campaign.
The partnership with Bryant has drawn a huge backlash, including from Tesla owner Elon Musk.
Zyanha Bryant had been previously accused of making unverified allegations that adversely affected the life of a white female student. Dove's latest campaign with the BLM activist has drawn flak, with some loyal-customers claiming that they would stop using the brand products, as reported by IndiaToday.
"Zyahna Bryant ruined a white girl's life over a non-existent remark. Dove just did a brand partnership with her to support 'fat liberation," an X account shared.
To this, Musk responded, "Messed up."
Now people are annoyed, and have took to X to announce their decision to boycott the Dove products, with one woman sharing photos of bars of soap dumped in the trash.
"I won't ever buy Dove again," one woman tweeted, while another woman said, "Sadly I use their products, but not anymore."
But why are people boycotting Dove?
Zyahna Bryant had accused her fellow University of Virginia student, Morgan Bettinger, of making derogatory remarks during a 2020 Charlottesville rally, insinuating that George Floyd protesters would serve as "speed bumps." Bettinger is a college student and the daughter of a deceased police officer.
Bryant campaigned to get Bettinger suspended from campus, and Bettinger's record shows she faced disciplinary actions for her comments.
Bryant later conceded that she might not have accurately heard the alleged remarks.
