Dr Devi Prasad Shetty is an Indian cardiac surgeon and entrepreneur. He is the founder Chairman and Executive Director of Narayana Health, a chain of 21 medical centres in India. He has performed more than 15,000 heart surgeries. In 2001, he founded Narayana Hrudayalaya (NH), a multi-speciality hospital in Bommasandra on the outskirts of Bangalore. He believes that the cost of healtheare can be reduced by 50 per cent if hospitals adopt the idea of economies of scale.

Narayana Hrudayalaya (Heart Hospital), founded by Dr Shetty is the largest in the world with 1000 beds performing over 30 major heart surgeries a day. From a 300-bed hospital in 2001 at Bommasandra, in Bangalore, NH today, is a 6,000-bed healthcare conglomerate, with 17 hospitals in 13 locations across India. Now, it has become a 30,000-bed healthcare provider with a global presence.

* He initiated the concept of the 'Micro Health Insurance Scheme in Karnataka.
* His company signed an MoU with the Government of Gujarat, to set up a 5,000-bed hospital in Ahmedabad.
# Dr Shetty was a part of the seven-member panel of the Board of Governors that
replaced the MCI and served for one year before it got reconstituted.
