Dr K. H. Sancheti pioneered to establish orthopaedics -as a separate branch at a
time when general surgeons performed ortho surgeries in India. He invented India's first indigenous knee implant, the Indus Knee. He founded Maharashtra's first orthopedic speciality hospital Sancheti Institute for Orthopedics and Joint Replacement (SIOR)-PUNE in 1965. Traumatology, Spinal Surgery, Paediatrics, Arthroscopy and Sports Injuries, Hand and Plastic Surgery were its other specialties.
