Dreamy End to the World Cup!
With Argentina crowned as World Champions of FIFA World Cup 2022, Manchester United now have two centre-backs, Raphael Varne and Lisandro Martinez, in the current playing 11, who are world champions.
But the other Reds, apart from Licha and Varne, showed some stellar performances.
Brazil, England, Netherlands and Portugal made it to the quarter-finals. United's three lions, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford, had some great performances, with Rashford being England's top scorer in the World Cup, with three goals in as many games. Shaw registered the most crosses (22).Maguire had the most attempts in line breaks (132) for England.
The Brazilian trio of Casemiro, Fred and Antony continued their superb form in the world cup. Casemiro had run the most among the Brazilians (48.34 km) and had the most attempts in line breaks (101). Fred and Antony showed their abilities in ball-carrying and recoveries along with the attacking threat.
The Portuguese duo of Bruno Fernandes and Dalot put up amazing performances. Bruno, with two goals, three assists, 227 sprints, 23 crosses, 68 line breaks and the most receptions between midfield and defensive line (73), showed an outstanding overall performance. Dalot was also superb on the right flank, with crucial defending and ball recoveries to initiate attacks from the right-hand side.
Our Dutch, Tyrell Malacia, missed out on the action again as the Netherlands spurned their first opportunity to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup.
Denmark, Tunisia and Uruguay exited the world cup at the group stage, but our reds have had an excellent campaign.
Christian Eriksen continued his excellent form. With 32 crosses, five attempts at goal, 36.51 km total distance ran, 75 defensive pressures applied and offers to receive (236) were the highest in the Danish Team. Facundo Pellistri made his World Cup debut. Hannibal also made his presence felt.
With the FIFA World Cup 2022 now concluded, we are back to our club football. We will witness our first competitive match against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, the round of 16.
