Barnsley strengthens their automatic promotion hopes with a 1-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
Substitute Slobodan Tedic scored his first goal for the Reds to push the South Yorkshire side closer to promotion rivals Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich Town with 11 games remaining for Barnsley.
The first 45 minutes didn’t really have many chances for both sides and the game had big spells with the ball out of play. The first large stoppage happened in the fifth minute when former Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen came off second-best in a collision with Mads Andersen. It saw him carry the game on with a bandage across the forehead.
Max Watters had a good chance in the first half but the on-loan Cardiff forward’s left-footed shot was tame and straight at Chairboys' goalkeeper, Max Stryek.
Barnsley seemed to keep the referee busy in the first half, with three yellow cards being given to players in white. Andersen also picked up a yellow later in the contest.
In the second half, the Tykes had a lot more chances but couldn’t find the crucial goal. Watters and Norwood were soon replaced by Devante Cole and Slobodan Tedic as Barnsley looked to clinch the contest.
Ziyad Larkeche, Josh Benson and Luke Thomas all made introductions in the final quarter, and it was the latter who helped Barnsley find the breakthrough with just five minutes left in the match.
Thomas took over a good run from Cole and his cross stayed up perfectly for Tedic to score and allow Barnsley to take the three points back to Oakwell.
The Reds held out and go into Tuesday’s South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday with an 11-game unbeaten run and the in-form side in the league.
