It even has a story behind it !
"'Ek do teen' were dummy words composer Laxmikanth had used when setting the tune,” informs N Chandra recalling the chartbuster from 1988’s biggest blockbuster, 'Tezaab'. He admits that after three-four fruitless sittings, when lyricist Javed Akhtar dropped out, he was convinced Laxmikanth would opt out next. Struggling to come up with an exciting song his Mohini could dance to on stage, the producer-director shared with the composer a signature Koli tune playing in his head, Ding dong ding, ding dong ding dong ding dong, Ding dong dong… Being from Mumbai, Laxmikanth had heard it too, and immediately called for his peti (harmonium) and in a jiffy composed the tune using ‘ Ek do teen, char, paanch, che, saat, aaath, nau, dus, gyarah, barah, terah’ as dummy words. The song was dispatched to Javed Akhtar who using the dummy bol as the mukhda took the dates right up to chabbis (26) as the girl entreats her lover to return before the month is up.
