The first human brain implant through Elon Musk's startup company Neuralink has been successful, the billionaire revealed in an X post online.

According to his post, the patient had received the implant on Sunday, January 28, and is 'recovering well' from the procedure.

According to Musk, initial test results on the patient show 'promising neuron spike detection.'

The post quickly gained traction on social media, with many users asking Musk to divulge more information about the medical procedure. So far, Musk has not volunteered any more details on the matter.

Neuralink Corp., situated in Fremont, California, is an American neurotechnology company dedicated to the development of implantable brain-computer interfaces.

It was founded in 2016 by Elon Musk along with a team of seven scientists and engineers, with its existence first publicly disclosed in March 2017.

Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had granted the company approval to initiate its first ever human trial for testing the implant and its efficacy.

The startup's PRIME Study is designed to assess the safety of the implant and surgical robot associated with its wireless brain-computer interface.

As per the company's website, the study aims to evaluate the functionality of the interface, allowing individuals with quadriplegia-paralysis of all four limbs-to control devices using their thoughts.

This news of a a successful brain implant follows Neuralink being fined earlier this month for violating the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) rules regarding the movement of hazardous materials.
