Humanoid might be the future, but they certainly can feel cool and equally creepy!
Why cool and creepy because they're so human-like.
Recently, a new video of Tesla’s Optimus is shared with new update ofthe humanoid robot's growth.
The video is also great progress from the demo we saw of the Optimus the first time, where every move of the robot was a bit jittery, and very, well, robot-like.
However, in this video, Optimus’ walk is a lot more natural. In fact, the first time I saw the video, I thought that the Optimus humanoid robot looked like a person trying to sneakily walk past someone without them knowing. Don't you agree?
This is the second video of the Optimus humanoid robot that Elon Musk has shared this month. The previous video showed the robot acquiring a new skill –– shirt-folding. In the video shared by Musk, the Optimus robot is shown retrieving a black shirt from a nearby basket on a table and proceeding to neatly fold it. The video is appropriately titled "Optimus Folds a Shirt."
However, as mentioned by Elon Musk in a post on X, Optimus is still not equipped at carrying out some of the tasks that it has been shown doing independently. However, Musk and the engineers at Tesla are optimistic that it will eventually achieve full autonomy, enabling it to function in various settings.
These series of videos that Elon Musk has been sharing are really cool, but they also imply that the engineers behind developing and improving the Optimus humanoid robot are actively working to make it more and more human-like. The updated iteration of the robot boasts enhanced walking speed, improved hand gestures, tactile sensing capabilities on its fingers, and a range of other upgrades. Initially unveiled at Tesla's AI Day event in 2021, the humanoid robot is referred to as Tesla Optimus or Tesla Bot.
