In a disturbing series of events, Israeli forces have carried out a wave of raids across the West Bank, intensifying tensions and resulting in tragic consequences. The most recent assaults, occurring on Wednesday, claimed the lives of two Palestinians in the Al Faraa refugee camp near Tubas and the town of Tamoun.
Early Wednesday morning, armored Israeli forces forcefully entered the Al-Faraa camp, sparking confrontations with residents. The clashes escalated, leading to gunfire from Israeli soldiers and leaving eleven people injured. Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported hospitalizations, while the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society documented three detentions, including a woman, during the raid on Tamoun.
Refugee camps and towns across the West Bank have become flashpoints for escalating violence. The Balata refugee camp east of Nablus experienced a similar incursion, resulting in three injuries, two of them critical. The 32,000-strong Balata camp has been a frequent target since October 7. Last week, a suspected Israeli drone strike targeted the local Fatah headquarters, claiming five lives.
In addition, Dheisheh Camp south of Bethlehem witnessed Israeli forces detaining several men on Wednesday. The Tulkarm refugee camp reported the death of a 30-year-old man, succumbing to wounds sustained from an Israeli raid the previous week.
Since the conflict erupted between Hamas and Israel, Israeli forces have heightened military assaults and detentions in the West Bank. The Palestinian health ministry reported four deaths on Wednesday, including two teenagers, bringing the total to 471 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank since the start of the conflict. Shockingly, 262 of these deaths occurred since October 7.
Violence in the West Bank has surged since the onset of the war between Israel and Hamas. The Palestinian Authority states that over 250 Palestinian lives have been claimed by Israeli fire and settler attacks. On October 7, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, and the taking of around 240 hostages, according to Israeli officials.
