WHAT IS CONSTIPATION?
Constipation is where bowel movements are difficult to pass, or they stop altogether. You know if you're constipated if you experience one or more of these signs:
• straining during a bowel movement
• not having a bowel movement
• feeling that the bowel movement was
incomplete
• feeling 'blocked up'
• hard and dry stools (but constipation can also be experienced without this).
It's often embarrassing to talk about, but ignoring it can cause serious consequences later on.
WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT? We often pass off constipation as 'not-that-big-a- deal', but if you're moving your bowels less than once a day, or you suffer from the previous symptoms - you have constipation! And when this happens on a repeated basis - it can create more serious health complications later on. We need to educate ourselves, our friends and our families to be aware of the importance of moving our bowels daily and with ease.
