Everyone, including me, has been waiting for Babylon for a long time!
As HR says, when Babylon's dizzying trailer debuted, it was marketed as The Day of the Locust meets The Wolf of Wall Street due to its coke-fueled bacchanal of sex, drinking, filmmaking, and depravity.
Marketing can be misleading, but in this instance, it turns out that's a true representation of what Damien Chazelle's poison-pen letter to 1920s and '30s Hollywood offers, with the loose narrative of Boogie Nights and a sticky dollop of Lynchian creepiness.
While many cool youngsters will undoubtedly sign up to be brutalised by the film's mad excesses, an equal number will find it depressing and tiresome. Even its technical prowess comes out as aggressive.
So it’s really hard to guess the fate of the movie. What do you think?
