External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday said India is deeply concerned about the ongoing war in Gaza and supports a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Jaishankar made this statement during the first India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministerial meeting in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Jaishankar said, "The current situation in Gaza is of great concern to us. India's position on this has been consistent and principle-based. We also condemn incidents of terrorism and hostage-taking. But we are deeply saddened by the continued death of innocent civilians." He said that any action should be taken keeping in mind the principles of humanitarian law. We support a ceasefire as soon as possible.
