Leaves sprouting out sounds scary. I heard the scissors one too, I have vague memories of being scared to use them as a child even though I really needed to one evening
Yes, yes. So true. I had dreamt of 🍇, melon 🍈 all growing inside me!!
When I was a little girl, I loved eating fruit whole. Of course, since I was extraordinarily lazy, this meant eating seeds! I would eat half a watermelon and never bother to spit the seeds out. My grandma saw me doing this and FREAKED OUT - she told me that if I ate seeds, they would grow into plants inside my belly :/ I had horrible visions of leaves sprouting from my mouth.
It took me years (and some dedicated Googling) to figure out that she was just telling me an old wives' tale in order to get me to stop. Now that I think about it, that wasn't the only one. She also told me: not to use scissors after dark (it summoned demons), to drink milk every day (for hair growth), and that I couldn't swim on my period. These were things that her generation genuinely believed, I think.
