Farmers on the way to Delhi for a demonstration seeking a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) are going through a lot of trouble and are facing difficulties obtaining treatment, sleeping, taking a bath, said farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher.
Pandher's comment came following reports that a protesting farmer died on Thursday. The farmer leader, who leads the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, said if the situation continues more farmers will be 'martyred', as reported by IndianExpress.
"The Centre is the reason for this protest. A large number of people have gathered here, there are elderly people at this protest. They are not able to access proper treatment, able to sleep properly, or take a bath," said Pandher.
"It would be best if the Centre accepts our demands otherwise more farmers will be martyred in course of the protest," he added.
Talking about recent discussions with the Centre, the farmer leader said the government is promising to accept demands but is not laying out a policy framework through which the demands will be realised. He said the Centre needs to come out with decisions and added that moving towards Delhi would be the farmers' 'last option'.
