The home-turf of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was expected to witness an easy fight as the 79-year-old seeks a fifth straight win from Patiala. Up against the Captain were Congress candidate Vishnu Sharma and AAP contestant Ajit Pal Singh Kohli.
Two-time chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh lost from Patiala Urban assembly constituency by a margin of 19,873 votes. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Ajit Pal Singh Kohli was declared winner from the seat.
Singh accepted his defeat and congratulated AAP's CM face Bhagwant Singh Mann "for an emphatic victory in the elections".
In a statement, Singh said while winning and losing is the natural outcome of elections, at the end it was a victory of democracy in Punjab.
