A goalkeeper with Al-Hilal and the Saudi Arabian national team, Mohammed bin Khalil bin Ibrahim Al-Owais is a Saudi professional football player. He was instrumental in his team's stunning victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening game.

Current Form

He has been in outstanding form while competing for both his club, Al Hilal, and the Saudi national team in their World Cup opening against Argentina, one of the tournament favorites. After Saudi Arabia's historic victory, the 31-year-old was named Player of the Match with five saves, two claims, and 14 precise passes.

In addition to making crucial stops, the Saudi Arabia goalkeeper had excellent off-the-ball movement. At times, he took on the role of a sweeper-keeper and intervened to clear long balls from the midfield.

World Cup Record

In September 2015, Al-Owais was summoned to the senior Saudi Arabian team for a match against Timor-Leste in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. On November 15, 2016, he made his FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying debut against Japan.

He has competed in two World Cups. The 2018 FIFA World Cup was where the 31-year-old played. He was the goalie for his team's 1-0 loss to Uruguay in the group stage match.

Al-Owais was selected player of the match on November 22, 2022, during a 2022 FIFA World Cup encounter against Argentina for his goalkeeping heroics, which helped Saudi Arabia to a historic 2-1 shock victory.

Club Career

Mohammed Alowais of Al Ahli has appeared in a sizable amount of his team's Pro League games in 2020–2021, with 20 appearances and 1,800 minutes of playing time. Over the course of their 31 games, he has started all 20 of their outings.

Alowais' final league encounter was a 5-1 loss for Al Ahli against Al Hilal on May 19, in which he played 90 minutes. This season, he has only allowed one Pro League clean sheet. Alowais played in 13 Pro League games and recorded four clean sheets for Al Ahli last season. Alowais left Al Shabab in July 2017 to join Al Ahli, where he played in 31 league games.
